History

For over fifty years the Mounds View Mustangs have been a pillar of success in Minnesota boys' high school basketball. This incredible tradition has been developed through a combination of several factors including the stability of its coaching staff (there have only been two coaches in school history, Jim Geske and Ziggy Kauls), continued community and parental support and the unmeasurable commitment by hundreds of individual athletes whose individual dedication is only superseded by their commitment to their teammates. These efforts have equated to numerous conference championships, 13 state tournament appearances and two state championships. While the faces change with time, the tradition of success stays the same.Check out Mounds View's All-Time Team Win/Loss Records.

Zigurds 'Ziggy" Kauls, affectionately known as "Minnesota's Coach K," has been the boys basketball head coach at Mounds View High School for over 40 years. In 1995, Coach Kauls was inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. His teams have over 700 wins under his leadership — and he has worn a green sport coat for virtually every victory! He is third on the all-time wins list for coaches in Minnesota.
